Engagement & roka catering in Bangalore

An engagement is the first meal two families eat together. The menu is a diplomatic document.

Engagements in Bangalore are smaller and more particular than weddings — 50 to 300 guests, two families meeting, and a menu that has to please both. RASA builds engagement menus from two seats (one for each family's cuisine) or as a plated dinner; in 2026 an engagement dinner runs about ₹600–₹1,500 a plate.

The engagement or roka is the meal where both families are at the same table for the first time, and the food tells each side how seriously the other takes them. The usual answer is one cuisine from each family — a Karnataka leaf and a Punjabi buffet, a Tamil Brahmin lunch and a Bengali dinner — cooked by two seats so neither is a compromise.

At 50 to 120 guests the plated format works and is often chosen: a three-course Continental or a seven-course fusion chef's table for a couple who love food. At 200 to 300 the reception pattern applies at a smaller scale, with two or three counters.

Formats

  • Two-family menu from two seats
  • Plated three-course dinner
  • Fusion chef's table for 40–120
  • High tea engagement (beverages seat)
  • Cocktail-hour counters: mezze, sushi, chaat

Yes — crockery, glassware, service staff and a cleared kitchen afterwards are quoted as separate lines so you see what you are paying for.

What happens after you send the ticket

  1. A written reply, usually the same day. A first menu built for your occasion, the per-plate figure it comes to, and the two or three questions we need settled before the number is firm.
  2. A tasting. For weddings and events of size we cook the shortlist for you before you sign. Each cuisine on the menu is cooked by the chef who will cook it on the day.
  3. The plan for the day. Counters, service staff, timings against your muhurtham or your agenda, and the venue's rules on outside catering, checked with the venue by us.
